The Ark Kzn was established in its current location in 1996 when The Ark on the Durban beachfront closed its doors.
The past few years have seen a dramatic turnaround for The Ark KZN, becoming what it was initially intended for, a haven for the destitute and homeless men. We soon realised that there is a big void in assisting these men and we have progressively managed to increase and upgrade our existing operations. The current situation in South Africa has seen an increase in poverty, and men are finding it very difficult to support their families and sustain being a meaningful contributor in society. We have also managed to extend our assistance into the neighbouring community, who are also in need. The Ark KZN has been put in a trust fund thus ensuring that the doors of the Ark will always be open for those who are in need.
At The Ark KZN, our vision is to create a society where every individual, regardless of their background or circumstances, has the opportunity to thrive and lead a fulfilling life. We envision a world where compassion through Jesus, empowerment in the Word, and community with our Brothers come together to uplift the lives of all men in need through the power of God.
Our mission is to provide a safe and supportive haven for young and old men, offering them not only essential amenities like accommodation, food, and medical care. We do this by looking at each man that enters our ministry as an individual and also creating a holistic approach to how we help our residents become a functioning member of society. Spiritually we edify the soul by having daily devotions as well as Church twice a week. Mentally we offer clinic and hospital trips for our men with psychiatric disorders in order for them to get their medication, we also offer free counselling to our residents and run two addiction recovery groups a week that are headed up by the project exodus program. Physically we look after residents by allowing them access to our gym and also by having them join our work program. This holistic approach allows every man staying at the Ark to become a functioning member of our society and gives them a sense of self-worth.
